No, you do not need to have a valid Nevada or “border state” driver license to apply but you must have a valid driver license. You must have a valid Nevada or “border state” driver license within 30 days of the start of the academy.
Candidates will be notified by email on an ongoing basis throughout the recruitment process. Candidates who are invited to the written examination will receive an email with information on how to register for the Firefighter Written Exam using the National Testing Network (NTN).

The cost of the initial exam is currently $65 which includes sending your score to one agency/department. For an additional fee of $15, you may send your score to additional agencies/departments that utilize NTN. (A fee of $15 will be assessed for each department/agency you send your score to). The CPAT is a sequence of 8 events requiring you to progress along a predetermined path from event to event in a continuous manner. This test was developed to allow fire departments to obtain pools of trainable candidates who are physically able to perform essential job tasks at fire scenes. The CPAT is a pass/fail event based on a total test time. To view a video of the events, click here.
All successful candidates invited to attend the City's Fire Academy must submit proof of a passing CPAT notice/card on or after May 3, 2025 by the time of the final offer. Do not take the CPAT before May 3, 2025, as anything taken before this date will be considered invalid.
Please note that although many agencies who offer CPAT exams indicate that the card/notice is valid for a year, the City has more stringent requirements. This is due to the fact that we have rigorous physical activities during the Firefighter training academy.

Yes, CPAT certifications from agencies/organizations licensed by IAFF/IAFC will be accepted if passing of the CPAT occurred on or after May 3, 2025.
The City of Henderson and NTN provide a fee waiver for applicants who cannot afford the CPAT fee. Candidates will need to provide proof of financial hardship. Some examples of financial hardship are:
The City prohibits discrimination and harassment against individuals with disabilities or who are pregnant in all aspects of employment. Applicants who are pregnant or have a disability and require an accommodation in the assessment process will need to submit a request prior to the closing date of the recruitment to allow time to process the request.
