Whether you dreamed of being a firefighter or paramedic from a young age or are considering a career move after many years working in another field, you may already have what it takes. The Henderson Fire Department is looking for people from diverse backgrounds that can bring their own unique life experience and perspective to the job. It doesn’t matter if you are just graduating high school, a college athlete, working in the construction trades, a stay-at-home parent… there are any number of paths that can lead to our door.
Firefighter and Firefighter/Paramedic Training
New Firefighter recruits go through 16 – 22 weeks of paid training in the fire academy, consisting of hands-on fire suppression, rescue operations and emergency medical services training, as well as classroom discussion. Successful completion of the academy is followed by an on-the-job probationary period working closely with seasoned firefighters.
Paramedic Ambulance Operator Training
New Paramedic Ambulance Operators recruits go through 4 – 12 weeks of paid training in the Paramedic Ambulance Operator academy, consisting of hands-on medical/trauma scenarios, rescue operations and physical training, as well as classroom discussion. Successful completion of the academy is followed by an on-the-job probationary period working closely with seasoned Paramedic Ambulance Operators.
